Mission of the Society

The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its members.

History

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as a national organization in 1913. The first national honor society in business was a merger of three separate societies established to honor academic achievement in business at the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois, and the University of California.

Today, with the global expansion of accreditation by AACSB International, Beta Gamma Sigma is able to extend invitations to outstanding students worldwide. As a truly global honor society in business and management, Beta Gamma Sigma's membership of more than 500,000 comprises the brightest and best of the world's business leaders.

Lifetime Membership

Membership in the Society is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate or doctoral program in business.

Membership is restricted to outstanding scholars in the 435 business and management programs accredited by AACSB International. To find out more about the Society and its programs, log on to the site at www.betagammasigma.org.

What Does This Mean for You?

Lifelong Recognition: Beta Gamma Sigma membership provides recognition for a lifetime. As the highest recognition of a business student anywhere in the world can earn, it is always appropriate to include BGS membership on one's resume.

BetaLink On-Line Community: BetaLink is the free on-line service that provides a variety of member benefits (Permanent Email Forwarding, Message Boards, Membership Directory, BGS CareerCentral). This service allows members and the Society to stay in better contact with each other.

Alumni Network: Alumni chapters have been established in major metropolitan areas around the U.S. The Society is committed to strengthening existing chapters and providing additional benefits to member in established alumni areas as well as increasing the international component of the Alumni Network.

BGS Scholarship Program: Through the Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship Program, the Society has helped more than 700 outstanding students of business reach their educational and professional goals. As the program continues to expand, more students will benefit in the future.

Student Leadership Forum: This annual program brings collegiate members together to analyze their leadership and managerial skills. Each collegiate chapter is encouraged to send a representative.
